Hope Featured in IFC Films' "Where God Left His Shoes"
Hope will be featured in "Where God Left His Shoes" from IFC Films, being released on December 12th.

"Where God Left His Shoes" is the story of Frank (John Leguizamo), Angela (Leonor Varela), and their two children. When they are evicted from their New York City apartment, they have no choice but to move into a homeless shelter. After a few difficult months, a glimmer of hope arrives on Christmas Eve: a nearby housing project has an apartment available immediately. The catch is that Frank needs a job in order to qualify. While the rest of the city prepares for Christmas, Frank and his ten-year-old stepson, Justin (David Castro), roam the cold streets of the city trying to find a job by day's end so that they have a home on Christmas morning.

A clear voice, a pure new sound, a petite musical messiah…No other name could be more fitting for the beautiful lady who has become something of a legend for music lovers everywhere. Whether its her gentle melodies that merge rock and soul, or sultry vocals over her acoustic guitar, her incomparable soothing voice says it all. Hope is like a breath of fresh air in step with the rhythms of life. Her harmony is so pure and her voice so sweet that it melts your soul.

By the way, Hope is her birth name. A native of New York, she was born into a talented family. Hope started singing and playing the piano when she was only three years old, and got her first guitar lesson from her dad at the age of five. While growing up she listened to a variety of music, including gospel, rock, and rhythm and blues.

Her mother was a familiar voice on Chicago’s top Black radio station and New York’s WBLS pick hit of the week for “Don’t Cry”, a song written by Hope’s father. Hope’s mother also graced the stage as the opening act for David Ruffin and Lou Rawls at the Apollo Theater.

Her father remains a prolific songwriter whose laurels include Musical Coordinator of the 1970s Broadway hit production of Hair. He also produced and managed bands such as Street and The Paupers, to name a few. He knew musical legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, and Jim Morrison. Hope’s father is known for his songs about people and situations – songs that speak to real life social and political issues. Hope has continued this legacy of writing songs that matter.

Hope recalls her brother bringing home a tape of Sade’s Love Deluxe and how she had to hide it from her parents. In Hope’s words: “Sade was my musical secret. When I listened to Sade, I found a place of peace. In that place, I filled a well full of tears and joy that I could not yet express. I decided then my mission was to help that woman in Somalia -- every woman, man, and child who suffers like her and lives a life they did not choose.”

This was an epiphany that began to profoundly affect the music she composed. Hope knew that her destiny was to inspire others through her music. During her teens, the budding young songwriter continued to pen sensitive and pensive lyrics. However, it was the real world stage that beckoned her to hone her craft as a performing artist.

Hope’s music soon caught the ear of record producers. Her song, “Soldier”, was featured on the critically acclaimed documentary soundtrack, Thug Angel. This film explores the life of the late rapper icon, Tupac Shakur. Her song “Beside You,” was included on the soundtrack for the Emmy winning television series, Soul Food.

Hope also appears in Soundz of Sprit, a documentary film directed by Joslyn Rose Lyons that explores the relationship between the creative process and spirituality in hip hop culture. This film features Common, Andre 3000, and KRS1. Today, Hope appears in concert in the United States and abroad. She has also opened for bands such as Air Supply and Christopher Cross, and lent her musical support to charitable organizations such as the Denise Roberts Breast Cancer Foundation. Hope’s “The Rain Don’t Last” has recently been the most requested and most downloaded song on 100.3 The Beat, LA’s leading urban radio station.

Hope is clearly a musical genius. When you hear her, expect musical boundaries to disappear. Her Debut CD -- Hope -- is soul-baring storytelling set to music at its best. Each song is a delicately crafted blend of lyrical imagery, sultry rhythms, pure vocals, and universal truths. As one of her adoring fans says: “Hope is the searing voice of the collective imagination….Her subtle strength is her ability to capture the human experience and translate it into song .”
